PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The SIRD Meghalaya is equipped with an administrative building, separate hostel complex, a guesthouse, and 4th grade quarters in an adjacent establishment. The administrative building of the institute has within it, office rooms, and a conference hall, training rooms, a computer centre, a library and a reception room. During the year 2008-09 several renovation works infrastructure improvement activities and infrastructure addition were made.

Training and other Infrastructure

The SIRD is spread over a campus of 5.89 acres (23846.315 sq m). Since inception the State Institute of Rural Development Meghalaya has been receiving non-recurring grant on a 100 percent basis for the development of infrastructure. At present the infrastructure facilities of the Institute include a total of 7 buildings which are listed below.

Administrative and academic block

The total area of the administrative and academic building houses the directors room, faculty rooms (4 no), staff rooms (2 no), the computer room, the conference hall, training room the library and reception room The administrative building, hostel and guest house was given a facelift during 2008-09 which includes repairing and painting works to enhance the overall look of the complex. In the near future the SIRD-Meghalaya in collaboration with Horticulture Society is all set for creation of the institute’s landscape to add to the natural beauty of the campus. Plans for improvement of the SIRD campus are being worked out and includes among other things the setting up of recreational facilities, technology demonstration units and water harvesting structures.

Training rooms

There are two training rooms with an area size of 90.72 sq metres and 75.64 sq metres each training room has the capacity to accommodate 40 persons each and is equipped with slide projectors, overhead projectors, LCD projectors and whiteboards

Conference Hall

The conference hall with a total area of 100.80 sq metres has the capacity to accommodate 40 persons and is equipped with conference facilities, white board, and computer board. It has attached bathrooms

Library

The library has been made functional in a separate building with 2 rooms which includes a reading room, attached toilets, librarian Room (with attach toilet) and a store room. The library has a total collection of 4595 books,1776 periodicals bound in volumes apart from a collection of reports, journals and other reading material in rural development and allied subjects. A separate building with modern library amenities and management is essential to enable trainees, visitors, research personnel and others to have ample space and a conducive environment for reading, reference and documentation works.

Hostel facilities

The total area of the hostel complex is 920 sq metres and can accommodate up to 30 persons. There are 20 single rooms and 5 double rooms with attached baths. Within the hostel complex is a dining room and a lounge room with cable television facilities.

Guest house

The SIRD, guest house with a total area of 250 sq metres is located within the campus has a six rooms with attached baths .It has a lounge, a kitchen and dining room.
